He has held a number of portfolios in local IEEE executive committee. Mr. Kalai also actively involves in promoting Academia Industry relationship, and serves as Industry Advisory Board member in number of Universities.
He started his career in Motorola Semiconductors and spent a total of 12 years in Motorola Semiconductor/Freescale Semiconductor with experience in Product Engineering, Test Development, SOC Design and NPI management. He spent 2 years on assignment in Austin working on MCU design for automotive market. He also spent 4 years in Motorola Singapore leading Micro Controller & DSP SOC Design for wireless messaging and entertainment applications. During this time he took 6 months assignment with the DSP Core Development team in Motorola Texas and Japan. He was involved in DSP core design activities and contributed in the new generation DSP Core architecture for Motorola.
Mr. Kalai joined budding start-up company in CyberJaya; My-MS as the pioneer team. Here he was involved in heading and setting-up the IC Design capability from the ground up to develop Embedded & Security Memory SOCs. He architected and implemented mixed mode design methodology and led team to Design & Develop Embedded crypto SOC with Non-Volatile Memory using industry’s advanced process technology.
Kalai also has experience working for Intel for over 7 years as Site Silicon Validation Manager and Design Engineering Manager for Low Power Embedded SOC Design & Development. He successfully setup a functional engineering team in Intel Penang supporting multiple projects and implemented capabilities for pre-silicon validation using emulation platform and post silicon validation activities for Communication and Networking product group. He led the team to build capabilities to push validation upstream ultimately reducing silicon fabrication stepping. Mr. Kalai was also instrumental in the setup and growth of Low Power Embedded SOC Design capability for Embedded Communication products in Intel Penang. He drove and defined modular SOC design methodology to effectively improve design development throughput and ease multiple IP adoption in multi-core SOC. He embraced lean development methodology and piloted Scrum in the IC design development.
